🌀 Short Description
Haven’t you heard your technician saying, “The reduction isn’t enough”? What if your preps could speak for themselves — measured and verified with the PrepGauge?
Our food-grade silicone gauges let you confidently quantify every reduction with easy, color-coded strips — built on the trusted feeler gauge concept explained in the how-to-use guide and video below.
No more second-guessing. No more repeats. Just predictable preps and smoother lab communication.
👉 Indications
- Crown Preparations — PFM, Zirconia & Lithium Disilicate — Verify adequate occlusal, palatal, and proximal reduction before sending to the lab.
- Full Mouth Rehabilitation — Ensure consistent and material-appropriate clearance across multiple units for predictable prosthetic outcomes.
- Anterior Veneer & Crown Preps — Confirm precise reduction at narrow anterior sites using the tapered 1 mm tip of the boomerang design.
- Posterior Molar Preparations — Use the wide 10 mm arm for reliable clearance assessment over functional and non-functional cusps.
- Cases with History of Lab Remakes — Ideal for practices aiming to reduce remakes and improve first-time fit accuracy.
- Teaching & Training Environments — An objective, tactile tool to guide dental students and residents toward prosthetically sound preparation standards.
⭐ Key Features & Benefits
- Quantifies Tooth Reduction — Eliminates guesswork for occlusal, palatal, and proximal clearance with an objective, measurable assessment at the chair.
- Color-Coded Silicone Gauges — Four distinct thicknesses for instant identification: 1 mm (Yellow), 1.5 mm (Blue), 2 mm (Green), and 3.5 mm (Pink).
- Universal Material Compatibility — Designed for use across PFM, zirconia, lithium disilicate, metal, and more restorative materials.
- Feeler Gauge-Inspired Design — Delivers reliable tactile feedback that tells you exactly whether reduction is adequate, insufficient, or excessive.
- Boomerang Shape — Ergonomically designed to fit seamlessly across both anterior and posterior regions of the arch without repositioning.
- Autoclavable & Reusable — Crafted from durable, biocompatible food-grade silicone that withstands repeated sterilization cycles.
- Compact Storage Case — Keeps all gauges hygienic, organized, and instantly accessible at the chairside.
- Reduces Lab Adjustments & Remakes — Ensures restorations fit predictably the first time, minimizing costly and time-consuming adjustments.
- Patent-Protected Innovation — An exclusive, clinician-designed system developed by Prof. Dr. Moez Khakiani for real-world prosthetic precision.
🛠 How to Use
- Step 1: Complete Your Preparation — Using the appropriate diamond burs, complete the gross tooth preparation to the best of your clinical judgment.
- Step 2: Choose the Correct Gauge — Select the appropriate thickness based on the restorative material and the region being assessed:
- 1 mm (Yellow) — Non-functional cusps: LiDiSi, PFZ, metal, zirconia
- 1.5 mm (Blue) — Functional cusps: LiDiSi, PFZ; non-functional cusps: PFM
- 2 mm (Green) — Functional cusps in PFM preparations
- 3.5 mm (Pink) — Significant PFM reductions involving antagonist teeth
- Step 3: Place the Gauge & Perform the Push Test — Ask the patient to bite down in Maximum Intercuspation and attempt to push the PrepGauge strip between the prepared surfaces:
- Use the wider arm (10 mm) for molar assessments
- Use the narrower arm (7 mm) for premolars and smaller teeth
- Use the tip (1 mm) for mandibular anteriors
- Step 4: Make Your Clinical Assessment — Interpret the resistance encountered during the push test:
- Cannot push the gauge → Inadequate reduction; further preparation required
- Minimal resistance → Adequate clearance achieved
- No resistance → Over-reduction or improper occlusion; verify with articulating paper
- Step 5: Optional — Use with a Color Indicator — For added diagnostic clarity, apply an occlusal indicator paint such as Arti-Spot or Bausch Spray to precisely visualize areas of insufficient reduction before finalizing the prep.
